Rocky’s Weekly Stock Picks

Just a couple days left to file taxes, and we’re not wasting any time. Technically we filed for extension, and some states automatically recognize it, but some don’t, and so we just ended up going HAM and are pretty much done. You might want to wonder why we’re filing a dozen state tax returns with pen and paper, but then you’ll quickly remember you aren’t here for tax stuff - you’re here for stock pick stuff.

  1. MVO - MV Oil Trust units are $11.63 each, ex-div is 4/14. Dividend yield is over 14%. Nice! Unfortunately, this may not be available to Robinhood users.

  2. PFLT - $13.84, monthly yields annualized out to 8.35%. Not bad, not bad. This one can be purchased on Robinhood. Nice! There’s even monthly options available. They’re about as underwhelming as you might expect, but that can be used to our advantage.

Deep in-the-money call debit spreads can be like free money, particularly if you have some patience and bid lower than the current bid.

  3. PBR - $15.69, options trade weekly, ex-div is Thursday. The upcoming dividend is $1.217. The present annualized rate of return is 5.17%, so it was already pretty decent. But now, in just one month, we realize a 7.7% gain.

    Magnificent.

  4. SBR - $62.78 a share, ex-div Thursday, 9.19% annualized yield. That may move up, as the next payout is $0.73, and Sabine Royalty Trust pays monthly.

Full disclosure, we started buying fractional shares for no other reason than we like the name. This will come as no surprise to our Rockydennis Presents Rocky’s Weekly Stock Picks regulars, as a good name can make or break a company.

  5. CMTV - $23.10 , Community Bancorp Inc Vermont. It’s a bank. In Vermont. That’s really all we need to know. Its history goes along with the overall market, looks legit.

Since we’re taking virtually no risks this week, and capitalizing on some juicy dividends of stocks we already want/have/want more of, we can treat ourselves a little bit by taking a chance on a random bancorp.

Ohh noo, not the safest kind of security to blindly purchase. I sure hope there isn’t another financial crisis and the banking system gets a massive bailout and sees record profits.
