Work Life Balance

Follow images of smooth stones in your life. When you see the smooth stones, you are in the right place at that time. Eventually you will move on.

If you have never eaten psilocybin-containing mushrooms, then you probably can’t handle that. Or maybe you’ve eaten too many. Either way, we’re both right.

So in mastering the art of Work-Life Balance, you probably searched Google and found images off balance beams, teeter tots, street and highway signs. But not the stones. You don’t ever bother looking beyond the first page of results. That’s why I infringe this kickass copyrighted material with zero consequence, and you’re scared to drink a Red Bull during a podcast.

“But Rocky!” you say, “No one cares! Get on with it!”.

Fair enough. Point being, a cursory search of the internet gave you feel good slogans, top ten tips, and other quick fix guides/offers. Maybe you even bought an e-book from a Clickbank link that wasn’t mine. Here’s an image from the first 8 results on Yahoo! that explains what the internet gives you.

I don’t know what WorkingAtTheEdge is, but I do know that I’m too lazy to cut their address from this image to infer originality on my part.

The poor man’s version of finding a work/life balance starts by quitting your job. 2020 gave us all a taste of being free from the mental and physical drain of having to deal with bitchy idiots all day. Some of us ran with it, some of us ran from it. Fact is, 50% of Americans are changing, or planning to change their careers. The return to work isn’t going great.

The reality is, you need a job. More specifically, you need an income paid by a business payroll. Preferably a salary, but wage pay can often be better. Non-exempt salary is probably ideal. Screw benefits. Everyone in America qualifies for free health care, probably because so few people understand this and apply for it.

The quickest way to get a paycheck supplied by an entity that isn’t you is to have a job.

If you have another source of income, say small business or investments, you might not need to work in the traditional sense. Still, it gets you out of the house and provides a secure source of income. You really can’t go wrong. Yet, somehow, it always seems to go wrong.

Before I even think about work, or anything work related, or doing anything at all besides being awake at my preferred time (based on my circadian rhythm, and no one else’s), is to perform a specific routine. This routine has kind of evolved over time.

Waking up at my time was really the first step. Even after going back to a salaried position at a company that isn’t mine, I maintain that sleep schedule. After waking up, I collect Cointiply once and the dailies at Pipeflare . Then I finish up any loose ends on AFK Arena. I like to get AFK Arena done the night before if possible, but as long as it gets done before 9 AM we’re good to go.

I’m not recommending you do any of that, but I’m saying that I do these things before I even decide whether or not to go to work. Currently I’m working 60+ hours a week, but that won’t last forever. It might even not last one more day. But to be honest, the less I need the income, the more I can tolerate at least showing up to work and doing stuff.

I have made no promises or claims to anything. I was asked if I wanted to punch a clock and collect a check. I’m sure more was expected of me, but I’m also sure that I feel zero obligation to my employer at any time. I do try to be respectful, though. After all, I might have employees of my own soon.

Based on my coworkers, I think I’ll avoid employees for as long as possible.

Further, I do not recommend working overtime hours. For me, it’s not really a problem at this time, especially since it’s on my terms. Additionally, I find it very helpful to keep my mouth shut as much as possible and focus on the task at hand. Let other people draw their own conclusions.

Not gonna lie fam, I’m plum tuckered and intend to upload a special video to the Rockydennis Presents Patreon at www.patreon.com/rockydennispresents I don’t particularly suggest this site for our Blog audience, unless you enjoyed our YoUTube series, “Taking a Dump”.

TLDR

Start each day on your own terms, with your own routine, a set of steps you would go through any given day of the week regardless of what’s on your agenda that day. Work will devour your hours, but only if you let it.

Decide your own work schedule and make that your availability. You don’t have to explain yourself.
