Rocky’s Weekly Stock Picks

This week we’re putting out our picks super early. Because Juneteenth. Price are current-ish, as of about 3:00 PM on Thursday, 6/20.

Just kidding, that’s not a real holiday and it’s ridiculous that it’s treated as such. In any case, we’re taking zero risks here and just dumping money into REITs, because that’s the way to do it. *Most of our investment funds are going into Treasury Securities, if we’re being completely honest here.

  1. ARR - $19.39/share, 15.07% yield, monthly options. The 15% being reported is a bit higher than what you’ll realize overall, but not by much. Armour Residential typically delivers 8-11%.

The main thing with annualized yields is to bare in mind that it’s annualized figure based on currently available data. They’re great guidelines when assessed properly.

If you are unfamiliar with the performance patterns of a certain security, REIT or otherwise, then annualized yields need to be taken very lightly. That is, if you want to play it safe.

  2. ORC - $8.50/share, 17.02% annualized, options trade monthly. 12% is not an unrealistic rate of return. 17% suggests to us that they’ve taken in above average revenue this quarter, but that’s just an educated guess. We don’t have the budget for in-depth research.

We will note however that given the continual fall in price after a reverse-split not too long ago, we may cease buying shares by the end of 2024.

In this manner we hope to fully ROI. Realistically we don’t expect ORC to disappear overnight, but we don’t want to be holding a big bag of depreciated pennies in a decade.

  3. WSR - $13.29/share, 3.76% annualized yield, options trade monthly. These are commercial spaces and offices. The yield itself isn’t super impressive, but the share price has only gone up since we started investing in Whitestone pre-covid.

You’ve really got to appreciate a ticker symbol that ignores market trends and just moves forward (and up) all the time. Like ACVF.

  4. HIW - $26.13/share, 7.63% yield, options trade monthly.

The price and yield feel about right for this one. In any case, we’re fans of Highwood.

  5. LTC - $33.56/share, 6.76% yield, options trade monthly.

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but LTC might be it. Stable, steady price that veers upward with a rock solid rate of return.

As the name might suggest, they’re invested in long-term care facilities. If you’re unfamiliar with the kind of money that goes into these things, let us explain in laymen’s terms.
