This week we have another holiday; Columbus Day! How is that even a holiday?

In other news, Timothy Plan has released its semi-annual report. This week we’re going to pick from their list.

Timothy Plan, for those that don’t know, invest only in companies that reflect bible-based Christian faith. Their ETFs are a great complement to the American Conservative Values Fund.

  1. LZB - $29.91/share, annualized yield of 2.42%, options trade monthly. This symbol represents La-Z-Boy (or for those of you in the original universe timeline, Lazyboy).

You may be tempted to think that furniture sales would suffer during economic downturns, but you’d be wrong.

  2. LOPE - $114.74/share, options trade monthly. This stock does not pay dividends, but it certainly has done quite well in the 14 years it’s been publicly listed.

This is Grand Canyon Education, a technology-based education services company servicing primarily colleges and universities.

  3. FANG - $151.23, annualized yield of 4.74%, options trade weekly. This symbol represents Diamondback Energy Company; an independent company focused on “unconventional oil and gas” in the Permian Basin.

We’re familiar with the Permian Basin (huge green light on its own for us), but have no idea what ‘unconventional’ refers to. Whatever it is, it certainly seems to be working quite well.

  4. WM - $155.44/share, annualized 1.81% return, options trade weekly. This is Waste Management.

Now, some of their former employees likely have a lot to say about this company. From an investment perspective, however, they’re in a business that can never die.

Well, at least not until the nanobots take over and convert all organic matter into monoatomic gold and mercury for interstellar travel and travel. But that comes long after human extinction, so not a problem for us!

  5. BEN - $23.99/share, annualized 5.04% return, options trade monthly. This is a financial company that holds the Franklin Templeton brand, among others. Investments and services to facilitate investment is the short and long of it.

We recommend any of the Franklin Templeton funds, but this symbol is a great way to just stick your hand into the whole cookie jar at once!
